Lizzo further explained how she got “tired of living” during her darkest days.

“It got to the point where I was like, ‘I could die.’ I never attempted to kill myself or thought about it, but I did think, If everyone hates you and thinks you’re a terrible person, then what’s the point? ” she told the outlet

After months of “sitting with myself for a long time,” Lizzo attended Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour.

“I was so nervous,” she told the publication, thinking people would “boo me or be like, f— you.”

Instead, Lizzo was met with support. “It made me feel like, wow, maybe I don’t want to die,” she said. “Life is worth living. That was the kick-starter to me being like, ‘Okay, Melissa, get your ass in gear and take your f—ing life back.’”

Three of Lizzo’s former backup dancers — Crystal Williams, Arianna Davis and Noelle Rodriguez — sued her for alleged sexual and racial harassment and a hostile work environment in In August 2023, per court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

They claimed that Lizzo’s Big Grrrl touring company “treated the Black members of the dance team differently than other members.” In an Instagram post, Lizzo denied these allegations.

Last Month, the “About Damn Time” singer appealed to overturn a ruling from 2024 that allowed the lawsuit from her backup dancers to move forward, dubbing it an “attack” on her “First Amendment right to perform her music and advocate for body positivity,” per Billboard.

According to the publication, claims including an allegation where Lizzo fat-shamed one of her dancers, were thrown out. However, the overall case was allowed to move forward.

The dancers’ lawyer Rob Zambrano said in a statement that the judge dismissed claims related to “the meeting where Arianna was fat shamed, the nude photo shoot, and dancers being forced to be on ‘hold’ while not on tour.”

“However, all the other claims remain, including sexual, religious and racial discrimination, sexual harassment, the demeaning visits to the Bananenbar in Amsterdam and Crazy Horse in Paris, false imprisonment, and assault,” he added.
